New York LLC Transparency Act takes effect

New York now requires LLCs formed or registered in the state to file a beneficial ownership disclosure with the Department of State, or an attestation that an exemption applies. LLCs formed on or after January 1, 2026 file within 30 days of formation. LLCs that existed before that date have until January 1, 2027. The state requirement is independent of the federal exemption.
