Every corporation, LLC and nonprofit must have a registered agent with a street address in each state where it is registered, to receive legal papers and state notices. Commercial agents charge $50 to $300 a year and resign when unpaid, and a company without an agent is on the road to administrative dissolution. The renewal date is the agent's, not the state's, so it belongs on the calendar as your own date.
